Scottish Association of Master Bakers


The Scottish Bakery Training Council (SBTC) was formerly known as the Craft Bakery Training Organisation ( Scotland). It is a company limited by guarantee having as its main purpose, bakery training responsibilities within Scotland. The SBTC has a Chairman and a board of directors who are from the baking industry.to develop and support the use of self learning materials to allow bakery staff to learn within their workplace

Aims of the SBTC

  • to ensure the competitiveness and long term future of the baking industry in Scotland through the training and development of employees within the industry
  • to ensure that training is available to all bakery companies throughout Scotland
  • to develop and support the use of self learning materials to allow bakery staff to learn within their workplace

SBTC Operational Activities

  • custodian of bakery training activities in Scotland and carries out work on behalf of the industry as an Associate of Improve Ltd, the Sector Skills Council for the food and drink industry, to ensure the Scottish bakery training interests are adequately represented
  • the SBTC is affiliated to Improve Ltd and an active member of its Scottish Employer Advisory Board
  • responsible for the maintenance of the Craft Baking Modern Apprenticeship framework in Scotland and for the registration of apprentices
  • development and maintenance of self learning material for the support of craft baking, retail and hygiene and safety training within the Scottish baking industry
  • development and management of a range of European Social Fund projects designed to enable the development of adult staff within the Scottish baking indust
